The ideal bait for SLUG X is Beer, any type is suitable for this purpose. The slugs, and snails are attracted into the trap by the smell of beer coming through the access openings of the trap. A strong beer smell will build up inside the trap, this will put the pests into a state of total confusion and they are then unable to find a way out. Many will rest up in the trap for up to 10 hours before finally going into the wells.

Setting up
Open a can of beer and drink up to 90% of the contents (beer not included) then:-

Place SlugX into position. The trap should be placed in or close to ground cover i.e., long grass - clumps of permanent plants or anywhere where slugs can rest up during the daylight hours. Remove lid and fill all three wells begrudgingly with beer to within 5mm of the top. Replace lid and the trap is set. Any spillage should be wiped off. The trap should be  emptied every 4-5 days. Remove lid, empty contents and flush out with watering can or hose.

Home       Seed Index

The cultural information should be used as a guide only, I have found a number of different sowing techniques for the same seed from different sources there does not seem to be a standard. With this in mind you should use this website as a guide only, you probably already have a tried and tested way of sowing different seeds. As a rule of thumb the larger the seed size the more cover it requires, and fine seed like Lobelia Begonia etc requires no cover.
