Calceolaria rugosa (Outdoor)

Plant type: Perennial but treat as an annual

Uses: Bedding and containers

Plant Height: 25 – 30 cm

Sowing: Sow January through to April 15 0C. Do not cover with vermiculite.

Germination 2 - 3 weeks

A low temperature and light are essential for good germination.

Approximate crop timing

Sowing to transplanting 4 - 5 weeks in small units to be potted on 4 - 5 weeks

later into the final container or at 6 - 8 weeks straight

into the final container

Sowing to flowering 16 - 18 weeks

Seedling to flowering 11 - 12 weeks

 

Growing on:

Temperature Maintain a temperature of 18 0C for a few days after

transplanting until established. Lower to 12 – 15 0C.

pH 5.8 - 6.5

Feeding Plants need to be kept just moist and fed with a low 1:1:1 or 1:0:1 feed once

established.

Pot size 9 - 10cm.

Planting out 20 cm

Advice Over watering, poor drainage or high nutrient levels can result in leaf chlorosis or

scorching.

Common pests & Botrytis can cause crown rot especially in poor

diseases ventilation. Outdoors aphids and slugs can cause problems.
