The Ultimate Handmade felt Tipi or teepee make excellent Kids play areas and dens for the younger children A combination of the first man made material of the early Asian peoples and the portability of the traditional tipi of the native American plainsmen, this handmade felt tipi or teepee is the ideal playhouse.

The example shown is 2 meters tall with a 1.5 metre diameter base. It is easily assembled and collapses for easy storage. Comes in its own calico bag with tent pegs. Because these are hand made, each tipi ( teepee ) is unique.

This is meant as a play item and should not be used for cooking inside. It is made from 100% merino wool and the poles are pine dowels.This is not your average canvas tent.

Information on the Artist and Felt

Felt is made from the fleece of many animals, matted together to form a strong material that has a wide variety of uses. It has been used since the dawn of man's civilisation for shelter and warmth, and later for decoration.
Although still used in its traditional way, in particular by the central Asian people for their yurts, it is enjoying a renaissance among  modern textile artists.

The International Feltmakers Association has many members in many countries producing traditional and modern work. One such artist is Chris Lewis who makes these tipis, as well as clothing, hats, and wall hangings - all using traditional methods and materials. In addition to her own feltmaking, Chris holds felt workshops and is co-author of the The Art of Crafts - Feltmaking.
Felt is made using soap and water to matt the fibres and is therefore fully shrunk, and non-toxic. The dense packing of the wool fibre renders the felt naturally flame resistant and showerproof.
