Plants for conservatories, hot greenhouse and Houseplants
Prefer acidic soils, do not use lime or bonemeal, sow on surface of moist compost in bright light keep moist, transpalnt after 3-4 leaves develop. Feed with a  very weak liquid feed occasionally to promote vigorous growth. Potted plants require high humidity and temp of approx 80F they should be stood in a tray of water preferably rain water, always water from the bottom, the tray should be left to dry out before replenishing, do not let compost dry out.

 

Venus Fly Trap Dionaea muscipula
The well known carnivorous plant Venus fly trap that lures the prey with sweet smelling nectar. The leaf is made up of 2 hinged lobes that has many sensitive hairs inside and when the prey touches the hairs it triggers the lobes to close trapping the insect inside.
Please note artificially triggering the trap may cause the plant to die.
Sow the seed at 25 to 30C and high humidity on the surface of a carnivorous mix 50% sand or perlite to 50% peat moss, keep moist and high humidity, shade from direct sunlight, germination 5-6 weeks experience in seed germination useful. Can be sown all year round.

Evergreen shrub/tree with glossy green leaves, Zone 8, scented flowers borne during spring. Grow in moist fertile soil in full sun to partial shade keep protected from cold winds. The leaves are used fresh or dried and as an ingredient for 'Bouquet Garni' Bay leaves commonly used in stews and soups. A tea can be made from the dried leaves. Has a long history of medicinal uses.
