Spiders in the Garden.
Close inspection shows that there are orb webs, sheet webs, scaffold webs and webs with funnels, all reflecting the range of spiders to be discovered. Not all spiders make webs, however. Look out for the cheeky-faced jumping spiders as they scuttle around over walls and fences, their large eyes on constant lookout for a bite to eat. Or look carefully at a patch of warm earth where, if you are lucky you will find wolf spiders going about their daily business of hunting, courting and mating.

Wildflowers for Wildlife
No wildlife garden is complete without a good selection of wildflowers, for it is these native species upon which most of our wild bees, butterflies, bumblebees and other insects depend. Many species also provide seeds for our declining finches and sparrows. Even if wildlife gardening is not your objective, many of our most beautiful wildflowers make fantastic garden plants, flowering over long periods, providing lots of vibrant colour and helping our wildlife into the bargain. Lots of wildflower species are threatened in the countryside as meadows are ploughed up and hedgerows pulled out. But seeds of many of these treasures are available from specialist suppliers, so we can still enjoy them in our own gardens. Plants to make your garden wildlife friendly by Jenny Steel

Home       Seed Index

The cultural information should be used as a guide only, I have found a number of different sowing techniques for the same seed from different sources there does not seem to be a standard. With this in mind you should use this website as a guide only, you probably already have a tried and tested way of sowing different seeds. As a rule of thumb the larger the seed size the more cover it requires, and fine seed like Lobelia Begonia etc requires no cover.
