Autumn Newsletter 2011

Welcome to our new Garden Club Members. We
have nine new members from Primary 6 and Ben who is our unofficial junior
member from P2, who comes along with his big brother Sammy. Everyone is keen to
work in the garden and has managed to turn up most Tuesdays at 8.30. So far we have planted seeds, done a lot of
weeding and taken a seed kit home to show their parents how to plant
seeds. We have also started to plant up
a sensory garden in the playground.
CSV
Action Earth – Sensory Garden.
We received a grant of £50 from CSV Action Earth
to plant a sensory garden in our playground.
We used the money to buy some lovely plants to attract wildlife and also
some grasses which are nice to touch. We
have used some of the money that we received from Appetite for Action to buy
some bulbs for spring colour and we have some bright musical tubes which the
children can hit to make music. At the
moment Miss Curnyn who teaches music is showing the children how to use them.

Sunflower Competition

Congratulations to Iris and Jake who both won the sunflower
competition. The weather this year was very tricky for growing sunflowers but
they persevered and were worthy winners.
Well done to Ria, Ayesha, Lewis and Sumaiyaa who were very close runners
up.
Congratulations to Mrs Adams who was very determined to win the
teacher’s competition. Last year Miss
Russell won, but this year Mrs Adams had the tallest plant.

Eco Schools One Planet Picnic.
Our Eco Committee took part in the Eco
Schools One Planet Picnic at the end of September.
The garden club provided soup for the picnic made from vegetables that
we grew in our garden. The garden club
joined the Eco Committee for the picnic and Sara said “The food was the best
part of the picnic especially the vegetable soup”

Morrison’s Vouchers.
We are collecting Morrison’s vouchers again this year as part of
their Let’s Grow Campaign. We are hoping to collect enough vouchers to
get a growing kit for the stockroom so that every class get can get a chance to
do some gardening. We need 2000 vouchers
and so far have 200 so we need to keep collecting the vouchers!
Green Schools Revolution.

The Eco Committee have joined the Co op Green Schools Revolution. We were asked to help promote the launch of
their campaign and the garden was used to help make the photos look good. Sonny represented the garden club in the
photo which appeared in The Glasgow Evening Times. We are hoping to do lots more things with the
local Co op in the future.
