Dame's Violet, Sweet Rocket, Dame's Rocket, Garden Rocket
A mixture of violet and white flowers. The young leaves are used in salads as a cress substitute, it is more pungent than rocket or cress and is used sparingly. Was once used dried on board ship as they are rich in vitamin C. The leaves are picked prior to flowering.
It is a short lived perennial and is often grown as a biennial. During summer evenings the flowers give off an intense fragrance. A good attractor for bees, butterflies and moths. Prefers a well drained site in sun or part shade. Sow spring in situ or indoors plant out summer, sow July for planting out the following spring.
