Myrrhis odorata - Garden Myrrh, The Roman Plant, Sweet-fern
An aromatic herb. White flowers in umbels. Pretty fern like leaves. The leaves and fruits are edible and taste of aniseed. Used to be widely grown as a food plant, a useful and tasty plant for all year cropping, nowadays grown in the herb garden, often used to sweeten and reduce acidity in fruit and rhubarb. Young roots can be used as a vegetable. Leaves can be harvested from late winter through to late autumn. Prefers moist humus rich soil in full sun to partial shade. Sow seed autumn or spring in situ or in pots in a cold frame.
General Sowing information: Herb seeds can be sown from early spring onwards, when the ground has warmed up they can be direct sown. All herbs come complete with germination instructions.
