Salvia mellifera - Black Sage, California Black Sage
Californian Black Sage has small blue flowers over dark green leaves. Not hardy. Leaves used in cooking as a substitute for regular sage. Best grown in a well drained soil in full sun.
Hardy down to approx - 5 deg C. Sow seed in the Spring. In areas where it will be subject to the lower limits of plant hardiness it is advisable to grow plants under glass for the first year and then plant out into final position protected from the elements after last frosts. Approx 800 seeds per gram
