Common Rest Harrow grows in rough grass areas, scented pink flowers attract wildlife. Habitat meadows and walls. Roots used to be used cooked or raw as a liquorice substitute, young shoots used as a vegetable. Herbal uses for kidney disorders and gallstones.
Scarify or pre-soak the seed for 24 hours in warm water and sow the seed in the middle of spring in situ. The seed can also be sown in a cold frame in the autumn Prefers a sunny spot in well drained neutral to alkaline soil.
