Bird strike grass seed. The safety of aircraft and the danger of damage caused by birds striking aircraft whilst taking off or landing has long been a concern for authorities responsible for aircraft safety. This has brought about the introduction of "Long Grass Management". Tall Fescue, Cocksfoot & Timothy, in that order were found to be the best suited for a long grass policy. Tall Fescue is the most promising species due to its erect stiff growth habit. It is also a highly persistent, frost and drought tolerant species and is the most suited to long grass management when mown at an optimum height of 150 mm.
Sowing rate 20g/m sq on bare areas and 10g/m sq on thin areas. Mowing height 150mm

General Sowing Information: Prepare the ground to a nice fine seed bed. Seed can be sown from mid March until early October, as long as during dry periods the seedbed is kept constantly moist until the grass is approx 5cm high. Water the seed bed with a fine spray to prevent the seeds or seedlings being displaced. A general rule of thumb to get a good established lawn is 50 grams of seed per square metre, allowing a little extra for filling in or patching at a later date. To sow the seed it is best to divide the area into easily managable sections and sow evenly over the area.
